In a tragic incident on August 11, Nomit Goswami, a Hotel Management student in Ontario, Canada, drowned in a swimming pool. Originally from Arjun Colony, Karnal, Nomit went to a friend’s party on August 11, that’s when the incident happened.
What happened?
According to the Amarujala report, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on August 11, Nomit decided to go alone to swim in the pool. He went too far and ended up drowning. Despite his friends’ efforts to save him and get him to the hospital, the doctor declared him dead.
Eight months earlier, on December 12, 2023, Nomit had went to Canada on a student visa, to study hotel management in Ontario.
Subhash Goswami, the father of Nomit, expressed the sorrow that has gripped his family. He said, “He was my youngest son. We had sold a plot and spent Rs 23 lakh to fulfill Nomit’s dream of studying abroad. He had just started working at a restaurant in Ontario about one and a half months ago. He was balancing work and studies so well.”

The devastating news reached the family on August 12, when a relative from Canada informed them of Nomit’s death. As reported by the Hindustan Times, the news was later verified by Nomit’s cousin and friends living in Canada. “Before joining the pool party, I spoke to him and asked him to stay away from the pool,” said Nomit’s mother. “But we received the news that he slipped in the pool and died. He had joined his new job at a restaurant just two weeks ago and was very happy.”
