Ahmedabad : Three construction workers were seriously injured when the dome structure being built for the inauguration of the new Ahmedabad Police Headquarters collapsed on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at the J D Nagarwala Police Stadium, where preparations were underway for an event to be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on October 3.
The collapse took place around 8 a.m. on October 1, while the workers were assembling the dome frame, intended to be a key feature of the event’s stage setup. The structure bent under its own weight, causing it to give way suddenly. Police personnel, already stationed at the scene due to the event preparations, immediately sprang into action to rescue the laborers trapped beneath the debris.
The injured workers were rushed to Civil Hospital in Asarwa, where they were treated for serious injuries. Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening, according to medical authorities.
Event Preparations Amid the Collapse
The collapse comes at a critical time, as Ahmedabad City Police are making arrangements for the grand inauguration of their new headquarters. The event, scheduled for the evening of October 3, will see Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurate the new building of the Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner’s office. With over 12,000 attendees expected, including 700 VVIPs, the event is a major milestone for the city’s police force.
Despite the dome collapse, preparations continue at full speed. The new police headquarters, located within the Police Stadium complex, represents a significant step forward for the city’s law enforcement. Most senior IPS officers of Ahmedabad will soon be operating from the modern, seven-story facility, which is equipped with dedicated floors for various administrative functions.
A New Era for Ahmedabad City Police
The inauguration of the new Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner’s office marks the beginning of a new chapter for law enforcement in the city. The state-of-the-art building will provide a centralized location for police operations and improved services for the public. The top floor of the seven-story building will house the commissioner’s office, while floors below will accommodate the city’s senior police officers.
The new facility has been designed with citizens’ needs in mind. The first two floors will be designated for day-to-day public dealings, including license approvals and other essential services. This is expected to streamline operations and make the process more efficient for the residents of Ahmedabad.
Safety Concerns Raised
While the workers’ injuries were not life-threatening, the collapse has raised questions about safety measures during the construction process. It is still unclear whether the dome frame’s failure was due to a design flaw or an issue with the construction materials. An investigation into the incident is likely, especially given the high-profile nature of the event and the number of attendees expected.
Ahmedabad City Police are moving swiftly to address the situation, ensuring that preparations for the October 3 inauguration remain on track. For now, the focus is on ensuring the safety of all workers and personnel involved in the event preparations, while investigations into the cause of the collapse continue.
