ETS Announce Faster TOEFL iBT Registration Process; Takes Under Five Minutes

Educational Testing Service (ETS) has announced a faster and simplified registration process for the TOEFL iBT test, effective October 1, 2024. The updated system enables candidates to complete their registration in six steps, reducing the overall time required to under five minutes. This improvement eliminates steps like selecting score recipients and additional information gathering during registration, which can now be done after the initial process.

New registration process

The simplified registration process with six steps is as follows

1. Create an account (username, email, password)

2. Choose 1 or 2 tests

3. Select test date(s) and time(s)

4. Enter personal information (name, address, phone)

5. Add or decline featured test prep

6. Review the shopping cart and pay

Making TOEFL more accessible

According to Sachin Jain, Country Manager, ETS India, “The TOEFL iBT test is globally recognized and accepted by over 13,000 institutions across more than 160 countries, making it a key tool for students aiming to study abroad. This update to the registration process is part of our continued efforts to meet the evolving needs of our test takers. With the test now shortened and the registration process simplified into just six steps, we’re not only improving the overall customer experience but also making TOEFL more accessible. By listening to feedback and implementing these changes, we are ensuring that Indian students have a seamless and efficient start to their academic journeys.”

This update builds on recent improvements

As part of TOEFL’s ongoing efforts to enhance the test experience, this update builds on recent improvements over the past three years, including the introduction of the shortened test (less than 2 hours), MyBest® scores, and the TOEFL iBT Home Edition, all aimed at making the test more accessible, particularly in India, where demand for international education is rising. ETS also introduced additional support for Indian students, like cashback offers on test fees, merit scholarships, and the TOEFL TestReady platform, which offers personalized study plans and feedback. The additional support includes “test fee cashback in partnership with HDFC Credila, merit scholarships based on TOEFL scores, and the TOEFL TestReady platform, which uses AI to offer personalized study plans and feedback. Additionally, ETS has launched the TOEFL Official Beginner’s Guide, specially curated for Indian students, providing free full-length practice tests, sample responses, answer keys, and audio files to ensure they are well-prepared for the TOEFL iBT® test,” read the official statement.
