Jabalpur Farmers, Administration Clash Over Stubble Burning Issue; Steps Toward Resolution

Farmers and Administration Clash Over Stubble Burning Issue

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Jabalpur farmers, on Wednesday, protested at the collectorate office over the issue of stubble burning.

The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) parked a truck full of stubble in front of the collectorate and highlighted their concerns. They argued that farmers were initially encouraged to burn stubble, but now they are being threatened with FIR for practising the same.

After the protest, the district administration held a meeting with BKS representatives. Agricultural scientists suggested alternative and scientific methods for stubble management.

Collector Deepak Saxena clarified that FIRs would only be filed if stubble burning damages another farmer’s crop or resources.

Raghvendra Patel from BKS stated that they are willing to stop burning stubble if viable alternatives are provided. However, he did not confirm whether farmers would cease burning until such solutions are implemented.
