Mumbai: The much-anticipated Panvel-Karjat Suburban Railway Corridor, part of the ambitious Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-III), is making significant headway, inching closer to its targeted completion.
This project, being executed by the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), is set to bring transformative connectivity to the region, linking Panvel and Karjat through a modern double-line corridor. MRVC aims to Complete Project by December 2025.

With a sanctioned cost of Rs 2,782 crore, the project has already achieved substantial progress both in terms of physical and financial execution. As of October 2024, the project boasts a 67% progress.

Key Milestones Achieved
Land Acquisition and Approvals
-Private Land: 56.82 hectares of private land required for the project have been acquired, with possession fully received.
Government Land: All 4.4 hectares of required government land have been acquired.

Forest Land: Permissions for Stage I forest clearance have been obtained, and work has commenced in forested areas. For Stage II clearance, key approvals have been secured, and the proposal is under advanced processing with the concerned authorities.

Engineering Achievements
Earthworks– A massive 2 million cubic meters of earthwork filling has been completed.
Tunnels– Breakthroughs for all three tunnels have been achieved, with over 3,100 meters of underground excavation completed and lining works underway.
Bridges– Out of a total of 47 bridges, 29 minor and 6 major bridges have been completed.
Road Over Bridges (ROBs): 4 ROBs are complete, with significant progress on key structures at Mohape and Kirawali
Pune Expressway Underpass: A crucial component, involving girder launches, has been completed, with painting and final works also finished.
Station Infrastructure
Station Buildings– Construction of station and service buildings is advancing across Panvel, Chikhale, Mohape, Chowk, and Karjat stations.
Facilities– Utility structures, including platforms, foot overbridges (FOBs), and administrative buildings, are progressing steadily.
