Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An elderly man was charred to death after he tried to stub out his burning bidi on the quilt, which ignited a fire in the entire house in Bhopal. The accident occurred on the intervening Wednesday-Thursday night in the Bilkhiriya area of Bhopal.
The elderly could not run as he was paralysed. His wife managed to save herself and has sustained severe burns.
The deceased was identified as Kamal Singh (67), a resident of Bilkhiriya, Bhopal.
Couple wakes up after experiencing intense heat & smoke
According to information, Kamal was smoking bidi in his residence on Wednesday while his wife was sleeping. He threw the bidi on the floor, without realising the fact that it was still burning. The bidi accidentally fell on the quilt. He did not notice much and went to sleep. Gradually, their entire room started burning.
Brother rushes to extinguish fire
The couple woke up after experiencing intense heat and smoke. Shocked to find themselves engulfed by the rising flames, they screamed in panic. Kamal’s brother, living nearby heard the voices of the couple and ran for help. He broke the door and extinguished the fire by pouring water without wasting any time. Upon ruckus, a crowd gathered there and helped to control the fire.
He then took the duo to the nearby hospital. The elderly man died after two days of treatment while his wife sustained injuries.
