A 31-year-old banker was mowed down by a luxury bus, while he was crossing the road. The accused driver, Kalam Khan, was caught, but released after serving a notice under section Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The provision states that if a police officer does not need to arrest a person, he/she must issue a notice to the individual.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Thursday when the victim, Sairaj Chavan, was crossing the road near Sharayu Bar when a speeding bus hit him. He collapsed and fell unconscious, after which one of his friends informed his father. The family rushed to the scene and transported Chavan to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Based on the father’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against Khan for causing death by negligence and rash driving or riding.
