A massive gold deposit, potentially the largest in the world has been found in China, Xinhua news has reported. The deposit, found in China’s Hunan province may reportedly contains 100 metric tonnes of gold. Xinhua quoted Hunan’s Geological bureau which said that the geologists have detected more than 40 veins of gold under ground.
It has been estimated that the gold reserves are present 3000 metres below the surface and the combined price of the gold reserve may be about 83 billion U.S. dollars.
Many drilled rock cores showed visible gold,” said Chen Rulin who is ore-prospecting expert at Geological Bureau of Hunan. Chen was quoted by Xinhua
Study of these core samples has revealed that 1 metric tonne of rock in the area may yield as much as 138 grammes of gold.
China has a prime place in global gold market already. It is believed that gold reserves in China are in excess of 2000 tonnes. This estimation was made earlier this year. About 10 per cent of world’s gold comes from mining activity in China.
2024 has been an exciting year for gold discovery and research surrounding gold.
In March this year, an English treasure hunter found what was considered biggest ever gold nugget found in the country.
In September, scientists in Australia found a process which may form gold. The research suggested that seismic activity under the surface of the Earth may help in formation of large gold nuggets.
