Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh): A habitual offender recently released from jail attacked an elderly shopkeeper and his family after the former denied to give him gutkha free of cost. The offender not only assaulted the shopkeeper’s family but also ran his car over the elderly man, leaving him and his family members injured.
According to reports, 60-year-old Ramkripal Agrawal, who runs a tea and gutkha shop at Ghuvara Tiraha, was at his shop with his wife and sons when the accused Manju Pateria arrived in his car in the evening. Pateria demanded gutkha for free from Ramkripal’s son, Rohit Agrawal.
Ramkripal sustained fractures
When Rohit refused, the accused beat him. When Ramkripal, his wife Anjana and his other son Anup intervened, Pateria assaulted them as well. The situation escalated when Pateria ran his car over Ramkripal, fracturing his leg.
Ramkripal also sustained fractures in his arms and legs and Anjana’s hand was broken. Both Rohit and Anup suffered injuries in the attack. The injured family is currently undergoing treatment at district hospital. The family filed a complaint at Bada Malhera police station but since then the accused has reportedly been threatening them over the phone.
