Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh): A young woman married two men through court marriage within a span of two months in Balaghat district. The case came to light when her first husband Rohit Upvanshi, a resident of Ladsara, filed a missing person report for his wife at Khairlanji police station.
During investigation, police discovered that woman had married another man Rahul Burde from Waraseoni just four days earlier. The situation became grim when both husbands arrived at the police station, each claiming the right to take woman home.
After much deliberation, woman decided to stay with her second husband and promised to divorce her first husband soon. Rohit revealed that he had been in a relationship with woman, a resident of Pindkepar village, for eight years.
On October 25, the two went for court marriage and lived together for two months. However, a week ago, woman left for her parental home, citing her mother’s illness, only to disappear shortly afterwards. Concerned, Rohit and woman’s family filed a missing person report at Khairlanji police station.
Both parties were summoned to the police station, leading to a tense confrontation as Rohit and Rahul argued over their claims to woman. The police demanded proof of the court marriages and ultimately asked woman to choose.
Woman said that she wanted to stay with Rahul and would soon divorce Rohit. Despite Rohit’s objections, citing the illegality of marrying another man without a divorce, woman refused to return to him. The police allowed woman to live with her second husband, Rahul, while Rohit expressed his discontent with her decision.
