The launch of the PM Internship Scheme 2024 has been postponed due to the necessity of further reviewing the insights gained from the pilot scheme. As reported by Business Today, it mentioned that a new launch date will be announced shortly.
This ambitious initiative, which lasts for 12 months, aims to provide internship opportunities for one crore candidates in the top 500 companies over the course of five years. The Business Today report cited a source familiar with the situation, indicating that the new date for the launch will be revealed soon. The scheme is expected to roll out in the coming weeks.
The report also specified that a total of 1.27 lakh internship opportunities have been posted by companies under this program, and approximately 6.21 lakh applications have been submitted.
Under the PM Internship Scheme, one crore candidates will receive internships with leading companies, selected based on their average Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expenditures over the past three years. Participation in this scheme is voluntary.
For the financial year 2024-25, the government aims to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities within these top companies. During the 12-month internship, candidates are required to spend half of their time gaining hands-on experience in actual work environments, rather than in a classroom setting.
This scheme is intended to give young individuals 12 months of exposure to real-world business environments across various professions and job opportunities.
According to the report, ₹2,000 crore has been allocated in the Budget for FY 2024-25, with ₹6.04 crore already spent by November 20. Each candidate will receive a one-time allowance of ₹6,000 and a monthly stipend of ₹4,500 from the government, while participating companies will contribute an additional ₹500 per month for each candidate.
Recently, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) extended the PM Internship Scheme 2024 registration period, allowing candidates to submit their applications until November 15.
