Days after improving its rank in the global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) rankings, Pune International Airport (PIA) has secured the ninth position among all airports in India for passenger traffic in October.
It should be noted that the airport is among the top ten busiest airports in the country despite being categorized as a customs airport.
Pune Airport recorded a total of 8,59,229 passengers in October, comprising 8,44,991 domestic passengers and 14,238 international travelers. While this is not the highest figure for 2024, it ranks as the second-highest monthly passenger count, with May topping the list at 8.94 lakh passengers.
For the unaware, customs airports, while offering some international services, are primarily classified as customs facilities and act as a link between domestic and international travel.
ASQ Rankings
In contrast, international airports are specifically built to handle flights between different countries, featuring advanced customs, immigration procedures, and extensive passenger services. Domestic airports mainly serve regional and inter-city travel.
Recently, Pune International Airport showed a slight improvement in the global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) rankings, moving up from 76th position in Q2 (April-June) to 74th in Q3 (July-September). Pune Airport had slipped from 71st to 76th in the ASQ rankings in Q2.
Out of the 31 parameters assessed in the survey, Pune Airport showed improvement in most categories, including ease of access to the airport, ease of navigation inside the terminal, and walking distance within the facility. However, three parameters saw a decline compared to the previous quarter. These included the value for money of the selected mode of transport (including parking facilities), waiting time at border/passport control, and ease of connecting to other flights.
