Details about the program

This degree with a foundation year is for students who lack the scientific or mathematical background required for the engineering courses. They can move on to the first year of the three-year BEng Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering program after finishing their foundation year successfully.

First Year:

Focus on learning how to control robotic systems.

Introduction to foundational concepts in robotics.

Second Year:

Study topics such as intelligent systems, mechanical design, and programming (C++).

Gain in-depth technical knowledge in key areas of robotics.

Third Year and Beyond:

Apply knowledge through a real-world project.

Design and create systems using 3D CAD software.

Build robots in the university’s advanced iForge Makerspace or labs, gaining hands-on experience.

During their time at Sheffield, students will work with industry-standard tools and gain knowledge of practical applications in advanced manufacturing, robotics, and systems control.

During their last year, students will enrol in speciality courses covering topics such as machine learning and robotics. Through individual or group work, they can customise their degree with elective study areas and acquire expertise in the engineering project lifecycle.
