Mahaparinirvan Day 2024: Mumbai Police Implements Tight Security At Dadar’s Chaityabhoomi; Check Traffic Restrictions, Alternate Routes

Mumbai: On the 68th Mahaparinirvan Day of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Mumbai Police have implemented strict security measures around the Chaityabhoomi area in Dadar. Due to the anticipated large influx of followers, changes have also been made to the traffic arrangements to manage potential congestion and traffic jams.

Millions of followers from across the country are expected to visit the sacred stupa at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar’s Shivaji Park to pay tribute to Dr. Ambedkar. Additionally, leaders and workers from various political parties and organizations will be present. To ensure law and order, Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, Special Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, and Joint Commissioner of Law and Order Satyanarayan Chaudhary have planned a special security deployment.

Security Deployment:

Senior Officials: 3 Additional Commissioners, 5 Deputy Commissioners, and 14 Assistant Commissioners of Police.

Personnel: 370 police officers and 3,100 constables.

Special Units: SRPF platoons, Quick Response Teams (QRT), Riot Control Teams, Delta, Combat units, and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS).

The police have urged citizens to cooperate by following their instructions, reporting unattended objects, and contacting helplines 100 or 112 in emergencies.

Due to the expected crowd, traffic restrictions have been imposed from 6 AM on Thursday (December 5) to midnight on Saturday (December 7) in and around Chaityabhoomi.

Roads Closed or One-Way Traffic:

Swatantryaveer Savarkar Road: Closed to traffic from Siddhivinayak Temple Junction to Hinduja Hospital. Local residents may use alternative routes via S. Bank Junction and Pandurang Naik Marg.

S.K. Bole Road (Northbound): One-way from Siddhivinayak Temple Junction to Portuguese Church Junction.

Ranade Road: Fully closed for all traffic.

Dnyaneshwar Mandir Road, Nambhekar Maharaj Road, Keluskar Road North & South, M.B. Raut Road: Closed for all vehicles.

T.H. Kataria Road: Closed from Shobha Hotel Junction to Asawari Junction.

Heavy Vehicle Restrictions:

Savarkar Road (Mahim Junction to Hardikar Junction)

L.J. Road (Mahim Junction to Gadkari Junction)

Gokhale Road (Gadkari Junction to Dhanmill Naka)

Senapati Bapat Road (Mahim Railway Station to Vada Naka)

Dadar TT Circle to Tilak Bridge and NC Kelkar Road

Suggested Alternate Routes:

Southbound via Western Express Highway or Senapati Bapat Road: Use Kalanagar Junction, turn left towards Dharavi T-Junction, proceed via Sion Railway Station or 60-Feet Road to reach Sion Hospital, or use the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to head towards South Mumbai.

Northbound from Colaba via BA Road or Haji Ali: Use P. D’Mello Road, Barrister Nath Pai Road, Zakaria Bunder Road, or RA Kidwai Road to Matunga’s Aurora Bridge, then head towards Sion Hospital Junction or the Worli-Bandra Sea Link for North Mumbai.

Northbound from Mahalaxmi Railway Station Junction: Take Dr. E Moses Road, turn at Rakhangi Chowk, and proceed via Senapati Bapat Road.

East Expressway Vehicles (Southbound): Use Wadala Bridge to Barkat Ali Naka or BPT Colony and continue via the Eastern Freeway.

These changes aim to ensure a smooth and safe Mahaparinirvan Day for all.
