Manipur: Burial Ceremony Held For 12 Kuki-Zo Youths Killed In CRPF Encounter In Churachandpur

Guwahati December 5: A burial ceremony was held in Churachandpur under the aegis of the Joint Philanthropic Organisation (JPO) to honour the 12 Kuki-Zo youths who were killed in an encounter with the CRPF in Jiribam district. The burial program commenced at approximately 3:00 pm following a condolence gathering at Peace Ground.

In a tribute to the deceased, the Kuki-Zo volunteers gave a gun-salute before the burial. Family members, alongside community leaders, paid their respects with floral tributes as the caskets were presented to the public.

The event concluded with a brief but heartfelt program, attended by prominent leaders from the Zomi Council, Kuki Inpi, and other tribal communities, reflecting the unity and grief shared across the region.

Mizoram Chief Minister’s Adviser H Ginzala also participated in the burial ceremony. The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum had called for a complete shutdown in Churachandpur from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm in honour of the deceased men.

The entire programme was divided into two sessions with the first beginning at 11 am in Peace Ground in Tuibong where people from all sections of the society paid their respects.

The second session began at 2 pm at Martyrs Cemetry in Sehken, where the deceased were given a gun salute by village volunteers, followed by the burial of the bodies.
