The BAPS Swaminarayan sect will host a grand celebration to commemorate 50 years of its centre in Mumbai and felicitate one lakh volunteers associated with the organisation. The celebration that will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, will see participation of BAPS volunteers from across the world.
Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) is a denomination within the Swaminarayan sect. On Saturday, this highly influential sect will celebrate 50 years of its Mumbai centre by their spiritual leader Pramukhswami Maharaj. The ‘International Karyakar Suvarna Mahotsav’ golden jubilee celebrations started from January in Gujarat’s Surat and will end on Saturday at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium.

In 1972, a centre was opened in Mumbai to provide various facilities to the volunteers who have served the organisation through different means. Though the centre completed 50 years in 2022, BAPS decided to postpone the celebrations in view of Pramukhswami Maharaj’s centenary celebrations. On Saturday, Mumbai BAPS Temple’s Mahantswami Maharaj will felicitate around one lakh followers of the sect, who will participate from different corners of the world.
The celebration is based on the themes of trees, seeds and fruits, which will be the key decor used to festoon the stadium. The entire ground will be turned into a digital screen that will be used as the stage where around 2,000 volunteers will present different performances. Around 15,000 volunteers will serve at the event meant to felicitate one lakh volunteers.
The volunteers have also prepared for a grand entry of Mahantswami Maharaj, whose chariot will be welcomed with pink petals that will turn golden once the chariot passes over it. Indian tricolour and BAPS flags will be created through LED lights.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will join the celebration through online medium while Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other ministers will be present at the event venue.
“In all out celebrations, volunteers work very hard to make it successful therefore the thought behind this event is that monks and followers will work while the volunteers will sit in the audience. This celebration was being planned since one year and since last 15 days, volunteers are cleaning the stadium like a temple and have brushed each seat in the stadium. This celebration will be a one of a kind event where one lakh people from across the world will be felicitated,” said a spokesperson of BAPS Swaminarayan sect.
