Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Jabalpur Collector Deepak Saxena has issued an order banning products like Corex cough syrup, Bonfix, whitener, and thinner to prevent teens from possible drug addiction. The order was issued on Friday, December 6.
The initiative was taken after several incidents were reported in Jabalpur where minor children fell prey to these easily available drugs in the market. The restrictive order was passed under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code 2023. The order will be applicable to entire Jabalpur district.
The order stated that products like whitener, thinner, Corex cough syrup are being used as drug among minors as they are easily available to the children in the market. Sometimes, the children took heavy dosages and died. They can fall prey to fatal diseases like TB and cancer.
Road accidents & criminal activities increased
The order further read that incidents of road accidents and criminal activities were also reported due to the consumption of drugs and making children drug-addicted. The addicted children were also making their friends drug addict.
The chemist will not be able to sell Corex cough syrup without seeing the prescription of a registered doctor. Also, the date mentioned on the prescription should be recent.
Notably, it was reported that the drug business is increasing in Jabalpur, not only the youth but also the children have become prey.
