Punjab AAP Criticises Haryana Govt For Blocking Farmers’ Peaceful Delhi March

Chandigarh: Expressing solidarity with Punjab’s farmers protesting at Shambhu and Khanauri borders for the past about 10 months, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Punjab, president Aman Arora on Friday appealed to the Central government to address their demands and warned against actions that could escalate tensions.

In a statement, Aman Arora said, “Punjab’s farmers have decided to begin a peaceful march from the Shambhu border towards Delhi. For the past ten months, farmer organizations and their supporters have been sitting at Shambhu and Khanauri borders, raising legitimate concerns. The Punjab government has made numerous efforts to mediate and resolve their issues with the Central government, but it seems the Centre is turning a deaf ear to their plight.”

Arora criticised the Haryana government for imposing prohibitory orders that are now preventing the farmers from conducting their peaceful march and said that initially, it was stated that farmers may march on foot, but now Haryana has imposed restrictions to block them. Such actions are unjustified and only add fuel to the fire.

Another senior AAP leader Harpal Singh Cheema also flayed the BJP-led Central government for its continued neglect and hostile attitude towards farmers and said that it is high time the BJP changes its approach, listens to the grievances of the farmers, and provides concrete solutions to their issues.

CONG CONDEMNS ACTION AGAINST FARMERS

Meanwhile, senior Punjab Congress leader and the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa also condemned the BJP-led Haryana government on Friday for using police force and firing teargas shells to prevent the farmers of Punjab from peacefully marching to Delhi.

“The Haryana government must understand that the farmers are not protesting in their state. They are using Haryana as a route to reach out to Delhi. One may wonder why the Haryana government has been perturbed by the same,” asked Bajwa.
