Mumbai: Muslim religious leaders announce protests outside Bangladeshi missions, demanding action over attacks on Hindus
In a statement, the groups said that Bangladesh, home to the third-largest Hindu population after India and Nepal, has been criticised for the attacks on the minority Hindu community and destruction of their temples. In this situation, ensuring the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh is not only the primary responsibility of the government there but also a violation of human rights, they said
Haji Muhammad Saeed Nuri, founder and head of Raza Academy, said, “Oppression and injustice, wherever it happens, is not only sad but also condemnable. Now that attacks are taking place on Hindus in Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority country, it is unacceptable in any way. This is not only against Islamic teachings but also a violation of human rights.”
He said that if the Bangladesh government does not make security arrangements for the safety of temples, the Ulema-e-Sunnat of India will take to the streets against Bangladesh.
Haji Nuri further said, “During Sheikh Hasina’s rule, Bengali Muslim youth were seen protecting the temples. Now, what has happened that attacks are taking place on minorities there?”
Shahzada Sher Millat Maulana Ijjaaz Ahmad Kashmiri said, “If the situation arising in Bangladesh is not controlled soon, it will affect Bangladesh’s image worldwide and it will get entangled in many problems.”
He added that the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Muhammad Yusuf should immediately stop the attacks on Hindus and take strict action against the organisations involved so that the minority community can feel safe. “we are with the Bangladeshi minorities in every situation. If the attacks do not stop, we will besiege the Bangladeshi embassy in Delhi.”
Maulana Khalilur Rahman Nuri said, “Oppression is unacceptable in any form, whether it is in our country, Bangladesh, or Palestine. We will always stand against injustice and with the victims.”
Maulana Amanullah Raza appealed to the Indian government to investigate these incidents so that the elements of our country cannot take advantage of the situation there. He said, “The Indian government should summon the Bangladeshi embassy and register its protest and should immediately stop the atrocities against Hindus there. All Muslims of India stand and will stand with the Bangladeshi minorities.”
