The 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) aims to emphasize the vital connection between anti-corruption efforts and peace, security, and development. The central idea is that combating this crime is a duty and obligation for all, and that only by working together and engaging every individual and organization can we address the harmful effects of this crime. Governments, public officials, civil servants, law enforcement personnel, media members, the private sector, civil society, academic institutions, the general public, and youth collectively have a responsibility to come together to combat corruption globally.

Each year, a theme is dedicated to the day’s celebration, motivating and promoting the aims to observe for the year. This year’s theme for International Anti-Corruption Day is ‘Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.’

History

In 2003, the United Nations adopted the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) – the initial move in the fight against corruption. It was an agreement endorsed by the UN member nations who united to work collaboratively in combating corruption and upholding law and order. The agreement was executed on December 9 and took effect on December 14.
