Central Railway RPF personnel play Diverse Roles

Railway Protection Force (RPF) is entrusted with the responsibility of security of railway property, passenger area and passengers. It is also discharging responsibility of rescuing children under “Operation Nanhe Farishte”.

During the period January to November- 2024, Central Railway’s RPF in coordination with Government Railway Police (GRP) and other frontline railway staff has rescued and helped a total of 1099 children (740 boys & 359 girls) with their families. This includes boys and girls reunited with their parents with the help of NGOs like Childline.

The division-wise breakup of children rescued during January to November- 2024 over Central Railway is as under: –

Children rescued in:

Mumbai Division – 379 children (242 Boys & 137 Girls)

Bhusaval Division – 247 children (141 Boys & 106 Girls)

Pune Division – 246 children (211 Boys & 35 Girls)

Nagpur Division – 168 children(107 Boys & 61 Girls)

Solapur Division – 59 children (39 Boys & 20 Girls)

Children rescued during November-2024 were 124 including 78 Boys and 46 Girls.

In comparison the no of children rescued during January to November- 2023 were 1053 children (741 boys & 312 girls).

The children who come to the railway stations without informing their families as a result of some fight or some family issues or in search of better life or glamor of the city etc. are found by trained RPF personnel. These trained RPF personnel connect with the children, understand their problems and counsel them to reunite with their parents. Many of the parents express their deep gratitude and thankfulness for this noble service.

Operation Amanat

Besides the core duty of safeguarding Railway property, the RPF under the operation “Amanat” has gone beyond the call of their duty and helped passengers in need and retrieved and returned their lost or left behind luggage, valuable articles such as mobile phone, laptop, jewellery, cash etc. to passengers.

During the current year from January to November- 2024, under the Operation ‘Amanat’, the RPF has retrieved 1491 no of luggages of passengers valued at Rs. 5.22 crores. Out of these 157 no of luggages worth Rs 43.72 lakhs were retrieved during the month of November-2024 alone.

In comparison, 1494 no of luggages worth Rs.4.12 crores were retrieved during the period January to November- 2023.

These include the articles like bags, Mobile Phones, Purse, Laptop and other valuable articles.

The division-wise breakup of luggage of passengers retrieved are:

Mumbai Division 649 no of luggages worth Rs.2.55 crores

Bhusaval Division 261 no of luggages worth Rs.1.07 crores

Nagpur Division 322 no of luggages worth Rs.67.89 lakhs

Solapur Division 88 no of luggages worth Rs.51.86 lakhs

Pune Division 171 no of luggages worth Rs.39.73 lakhs

These soldiers of the Railway Protection Force also face diverse security challenges such as crime against passengers and railway properties, extremist violence, obstruction to train movement etc. The work of these brave soldiers of the Railway Protection Force can be summarized as Suraksha, Satarkta and Seva and they have discharged their duties with utmost dedication alertness and courage.
