Mumbai: A 41-year-old man has lodged a complaint with the police against a group of people who allegedly duped him and his three friends to the tune of Rs 26 lakh by inducing them to invest in crypto-currency by assuring lucrative returns on investment.
About The Case
According to the police, the complainant is a resident of Thane. Through one of his friends, he had come across a few people from Jalna who were allegedly involved in crypto-currency investment. The accused persons claimed that they themselves had invested in crypto-currency and had made huge profits. They claimed that the complainant can earn 12 to 15% per month on his investment. He was told that one cryptocurrency coin is worth Rs 14,000 to Rs 15000 and in the future, its value would reach over Rs 1 lakh each coin.
The accused also assured that in case there is some problem in the future, then they would return back the invested principal amount to him. Over the period of time, the victim and his friends paid Rs 26.02 lakh to the accused and they were promised Rs 3 crore by March. However, despite repeated requests, the complainant and his friends did not get the money.
Later, the victim came to know about the fraudulent activities of the accused, who have cases registered in Jalna, Thane, and Ichalkaranji and their properties seized. The case has been registered on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act.
