Dr VP Pandey Assumes MGM Dean Post Amid Controversy; Dr Ashok Yadav Lodges Complaint With Minister

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Dr VP Pandey assumed the role of dean at MGM Medical College on Friday following a High Court order but the transition remains disputed as Dr Ashok Yadav alleged that he has not officially handed over the charge. Dr Pandey arrived at the dean’s office at 11 am and began working, claiming he had informed the health commissioner via email about taking charge based on the court directive.

Meanwhile, Dr Yadav has contested this move, writing to the health and medical education minister and Commissioner that Dr Pandey assumed the position without government approval or formal handover. He alleged that the situation has undermined the dignity of the dean’s post and sparked unnecessary controversy.

Dr Pandey, in his defence, cited the court order and stated the email exchange with the commissioner validated his actions. The dispute began after Dr Sanjay Dixit’s retirement as dean on November 30. Dr Dixit handed over charge to Dr Yadav, which was later challenged by Dr Pandey in the High Court. On Thursday, the court ordered that the charge be handed over to Dr Pandey, escalating tensions.

Uncertainty over permanent dean appointment

Amid the controversy, the issue of appointing a permanent dean remains unresolved. Dr Pandey has also filed a petition in the High Court against the government’s direct appointments to such posts in medical colleges statewide. While the court has allowed the government to proceed with permanent appointments, the next hearing is scheduled for January 7, leaving the matter in limbo.
