Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: Court Grants Bail To Ex-RG Kar Principal Sandip Ghosh, Former Cop Abhijit Mondol As CBI Fails To Submit Chargesheet

Kolkata: After CBI failed to submit chargesheet against former RG Kar College principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala police station former OC Abhijit Mondal, both were granted bail from session court in Sealdah over rape and murder incident of junior medic on August 9.

The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) granted bail to both Ghosh and Mondal on a security bond of Rs. 2000 each. The court had also instructed both Ghosh and Mondal to be present before the central agency whenever they are called.

According to court sources, the central agency officials said that the investigation on rape and murder incident is still going on.

However, Ghosh will remain in jail as investigation is still on for financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital premises. After the procedure gets over, Mondal will be released from jail.

Notably, now questions are being raised over the credibility of the central agency that even after completion of 90 days the CBI failed to submit the chargesheet.

Mother of the RG Kar rape and murder victim said that she is ‘depressed’ over the development. “I want justice for my daughter. I don’t know the actual reason why even after 90 days the CBI failed to submit the chargesheet. I don’t know what will happen next,” said the victim’s mother.

Senior doctor Utpal Banerjee said that the doctors will start a ‘bigger protest’ over the failure of CBI denying justice.

“I don’t know whether anything political happened or is it something else. The doctors will not sit back idle and will start bigger protests to get justice for Tilottama,” added Dr. Banerjee.

The West Bengal Junior Doctors Front also demanded an explanation from the central agency for ‘failing’ to submit a chargesheet.

Incidentally, a protest rally will be conducted from Karunamoyee in Salt Lake to CBI headquarters on Saturday. Advocate Jayanta Narayan Chatterjee also expressed his annoyance over the development.

“This day is the black day for all Bengali. Bengalis not just in West Bengal but across the globe were waiting for justice for Tilottama. Everywhere protests were seen over the incident and CBI failed to deliver justice,” said Chatterjee.

Poll analyst Shubhamoy Maitra said, “Getting bail after the investigating agency fails to submit a chargesheet is nothing new in our country. It neither calls for happiness nor sadness as the investigation process is still on. We have to wait and watch through the proceedings.”

Meanwhile, after Jaynagar, capital punishment is given by Jangipur court to the accused who raped and murdered a nine-year-old girl.
