Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the collapse, as the building had been vacated earlier. Residents in the vicinity were alerted to avoid the area as authorities worked to manage the aftermath of the collapse. Five vehicles of the fire brigade were rushed to the spot to conduct a search-and-rescue operation, as per a PTI report.
Bhendi Bazaar, a densely populated area, is home to several aging structures that require regular maintenance and inspections to prevent such incidents.
The building collapse incident comes just few days after major fire broke out in a 22-storey residential building, Ansari Heights, located in the congested Nishan Pada area of Dongri, on November 27. The blaze, which started around 1 pm, escalated rapidly, prompting the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) to declare it a Level 3 fire by 2 pm.
Details On The Fire
The fire was concentrated on the 10th, 13th and 18th floors of the high-rise, as confirmed by the disaster management cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Emergency services, including nine fire engines, seven jumbo tankers, three quick response vehicles, an ambulance and personnel from the BMC and Mumbai Police, were dispatched immediately. After an intense operation, the fire was successfully brought under control by 4:55 pm.
