Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Vijaya K Rahatkar objected to the absence of Bhopal Commissioner Sanjeev Singh, Bhopal IG and Police Commissioner Hari Narayanchari Mishra at a public hearing at Zila Panchayat office in the city on Thursday.
Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh also left after a while. The chairperson said this is the first time that the IG-Commissioner is not present in the hearing and the attitude of the officers was indifferent. After that, the chairperson held a meeting with police officers and said that everyone should be present in the hearing.
The public hearing was part of ‘Rashtriya Mahila Aayog Aapke Dwar’ organised by NCW. A total of 55 cases mostly from Bhopal including harassment at workplace, rape, dowry, police apathy etc were heard. Of these, 30 serious cases were identified which were related to the police department and 25 who had contacted the National Commission for Women over phone were also called here.
In one case, the wife of a man working in a private company, complained that his husband had driven her out of their home one-and-a-half years back. In another case, a woman said that her husband and father-in-law forced her to shut her dress materials’ business as it involved her to talk with male clients. They even got CCTV cameras installed to keep an eye on her.
