Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Jugalbadi of singer Sara and Samar Mehdi captivated the audience at State Museum in the city on Saturday evening under Naghma-e-Ruh- Melodies of the soul’. The duo who are brother and sister presented some classic and timeless ghazals which left the audience spellbound.
They included ‘Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo…,’ ‘Tumko Dekha To Ye Khayal Aaya…,’ ‘Wo Humsafar Tha…,’ ‘Mujhe Tum Nazar Se Gira To Rahe Ho…,’ ‘Har Tarannum Mein Mili Hai Teri Awaaz Mujhe…,’ and ‘Main Hawa Hoon Kahan Watan Mera…’.
Samar Mehdi is a singer, songwriter, and fingerstyle guitarist, famous for his soulful compositions and deep connection with music. Sara Mehndi is also a versatile singer, proficient in various styles, including classical, ghazal, and Bollywood. Her voice beautifully captures the essence of ghazals.
Part of the Mehdis’ “Meeraas” project, the performance offered a fresh take on ghazals while honouring their timeless legacy. The duo’s reinterpretations blended tradition with modernity, reviving iconic works of legendary maestros. Through an unlined mix of evocative poetry and heartfelt music, they crafted a deeply nostalgic and intimate experience for the audience to explore.
This passion project by Sarah and Samar Mehdi bridges the past and present of ghazal music. By revisiting celebrated masterpieces, “Meeraas” breathes new life into the genre, presenting it as a living art form infused with cultural depth and emotion. The concert was a heartfelt tribute to the enduring charm of ghazals, displaying the Mehdi duo’s dedication to preserving and reimagining this cherished tradition.
Organised by Club Literati, the event aimed to bridge the gap between generations, blending tradition and modernity to present a new and contemporary form of rich musical heritage. It also provides a platform for young and talented artists to showcase their talent. The event was anchored by poet Badr Waasti.
