The opposition MVA on Sunday targeted the Maharashtra government over farmers’ plight, price rise, jobs and a sarpanch’s murder and declared it would boycott the customary tea party on the eve of the state legislature’s winter session here.
The Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, has claimed that the current Mahayuti government is anti-farmer, involved in atrocities against Dalits, and responsible for daylight murders. Danve was addressing a joint meeting of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Nagpur at Ravi Bhavan.
Danve claimed that there would be no questions and answers and calling attention motions during the winter session, which will be held from December 16 to December 21.
The Mahayuti has formed the government with the ‘help’ of EVMs, he claimed.
He further accused the government of neglecting the dairy sector, with declining milk prices, and highlighted the dire situation of farmers. “This government has left the farmers in a miserable condition,” Danve said.
Danve also spoke about the tragic death of Somnath Somwanshi, a young man arrested during the combing operation in Parbhani after the Constitution was desecrated. “While such incidents occur, the chief minister is busy with processions,” Danve remarked.
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar asked how issues concerning the Vidarbha region, which covers Nagpur, will be addressed in such a short session. He noted that after the new government took charge, there was an expectation of a three-week session in Vidarbha, which was dismissed.
Congress state president Nana Patole condemned the brutal murder of Beed’s Sarpanch, Santosh Deshmukh, and accused the killers of desecrating his body.
The press conference was attended by several senior leaders, including Congress state president Nana Patole, NCP’s legislative leader Jitendra Awhad, MLA Vijay Wadettiwar, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sunil Prabhu and MLAs Mahesh Sawant and JM Abhyankar.
