Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sparked a social media debate on Wednesday after referencing Shah Rukh Khan’s film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (DDLJ) while sharing photos of Majuli Island’s yellow flower fields.
The Chief Minister posted two images showing fields of yellow flowers reminiscent of the iconic scenes from DDLJ, writing, “Reminiscent of the cult classic DDLJ? Well in Assam we are empowering all our daughters to जी ले अपनी जिंदगी (live life on their own terms).”

Shortly after his post, social media users were quick to recall his January 2023 statement where he had claimed he “didn’t know much about Shah Rukh Khan.”
Fact-checker Mohammed Zubair shared screenshots of the CM’s previous statement alongside the new tweet, commenting, “People who didn’t know Shahrukh Khan are remembering the dialogues of ‘cult classic’ DDLJ.”
