Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Union Carbide Corporation’s (UCC) chemical waste is expected to be transported to Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) in Pithampur at midnight on December 31.
According to the Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation department (BGTRRD) officials, UCC’s 337 MT waste will be transported by the end of the current year.
The loading of the waste continued in the REEL containers.
However, gas victims said that it will be transported to REEL, Pithampur, by midnight December 31. They have already called 337 MT chemical wastes as the tip of the iceberg and demanded the BGTRRD to ensure total clean-up of the UCC plant.
Meanwhile, the clean-up drive continued for the second day on Monday. The drive started on Sunday amid tight security after the MP High Court order. The HC had given the state government four weeks on December 3, 2024, on the 40th anniversary of the Bhopal gas tragedy.
Commissioner (Gas Relief) Swatantra Kumar Singh said, “Before the end of the current year, the waste will be transported to REEL, Pithampur. Removal of waste in the UCC plant continues with REEL’s trained handlers with proper kits.”
