Mumbai: Vishwa Hindu Parishad ‘s women wings Matushakti and Durga Vahini will hold ‘path sanchalan’ to commemorate the birth anniversaries of Ahilyabai Holkar and Rani Durgavati. The Hindu women outfits aim to inspire young girls through the lives of brave Hindu women.
At a press conference organised on Friday, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad announced a foot march to pay tribute to Ahilyabai Holkar and Rani Durgavati on their 300th and 500th birth anniversaries respectively.
VHP’s women wings Matrushakti and young women’s wing Durga Vahini will jointly organise a ‘path sanchalan’ march on Sunday, which is expected to see a participation of over 2,500 women.
The women members of the VHP will gather at the Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya in Dadar (E) at 3pm and will proceed for a foot march around the locality. The path sanchalan will conclude at the school’s playground where a large gathering of women will be addressed at 4.30pm by Sadhvi Rithambara, founder of Durga Vahini.
Manisha Bhoir, coordinator of Matrushakti’s Konkan Division, said, “In recent times, young girls are getting distracted a lot and this is our attempt to bring a renaissance of Hindu women’s principles showcased by the likes of Ahilyadevi and Rani Durgavati. Ahilyadevi became a widow at the age of 28 years and Rani Durgavati sacrificed her life to prove her character. These are the women our young girls should look up to.”
Apart from Sadhvi Rithambara as the key speaker for the gathering, SNDT Women’s University vice chancellor Ujwala Chakradeo will be present as the chief guest of the event. “The sole purpose of this event is to offer our tribute to the brave Hindu women like Ahilyabai Holkar and Rani Durgavati. We want to inspire young women to learn from such historic figures,” said Supriya Sawant, vice president of VHP Konkan division.
Notably, the VHP will also launch its campaign to free temples from government’s control on the same day. Around 5 lakh people are expected to participate in the public gathering which will be held at Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada.
