This event, orchestrated by the Southern Command, showcased the Indian Army’s unwavering dedication to building a robust and self-reliant India, captivating an astounding audience of over 2.65 lakh attendees during its exhilarating three-day extravaganza from January 3 to January 5.

The inaugural ceremony on January 3 was graced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In his speech, Fadnavis highlighted the enduring bond between the Army and the citizens of Pune, emphasising the significance of initiatives like the ‘Know Your Army Mela,’ which provides citizens with a rare opportunity to engage with Army personnel and gain profound insights into the cutting-edge technologies that enhance the Army’s operational prowess.
This year’s mela held special significance as it heralded the historic Army Day Parade, set to be hosted in Pune for the first time on January 15. A captivating teaser video was unveiled, inviting the public to partake in this momentous celebration at the BEG Parade Ground.
The event dazzled attendees with a breathtaking array of military assets, including Infantry and Special Forces equipment, K-9 Vajra, 155 MM BOFORS, PINAKA, SMERCH, T-90 and BMP-II tanks, Air Defence systems, Robotic Mules, and Swarm Drones, illuminating the advancements in protection and mobility. Visitors were further enthralled by the immersive Indian Army Photo Exhibition, showcased by the Central Bureau of Communication, and the dynamic display featuring Martial Music by Pipe Band Display, Martial Arts through the Army Martial Arts Routine team, Army Dog Display, Tent Pegging by Equestrian Team, and traditional performances, including the Khukri Dance, Gatka, Mallakhamb, and Kalaripayattu, celebrating the valour and dedication of the armed forces.
The Southern Command executed comprehensive arrangements with military precision, ensuring seamless access, immaculate organisation, and smooth parking for visitors, which significantly contributed to the event’s overall success. The meticulous planning and execution were evident in the fluid movement of attendees, allowing everyone to fully immerse themselves in the displays and activities.
The ‘Know Your Army Mela 2025’ not only fortified the bond between the Indian Army and the citizens of Maharashtra but also ignited a fervent inspiration among the youth to contemplate a future in service to the nation.
