Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) distributed a grant of a total of Rs 12.5 lakh to 25 sports institutions across the city for hosting sporting events. Each of the institutions got Rs 50,000 for hosting the inter-school sports competitions held recently under the joint aegis of the IMC and the Madhya Pradesh Olympic Association.
The event, which saw the participation of 6,700 players across 25 sports, was celebrated in a simple ceremony at the municipal corporation meeting hall. The grant was handed out in the presence of Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava and Madhya Pradesh Olympics Association president and MLA Ramesh Mendola.
Other prominent guests included Nand Kishore Pahadiya, vice president of Madhya Pradesh Olympic Association Om Soni, secretary Digvijay Singh and Anil Dhupar. Speaking on the occasion, Mendola praised the initiative, noting that the IMC is the first in Madhya Pradesh to organise such an event. He also suggested incorporating traditional games in future competitions and announced the upcoming national cricket stadium for disabled people.
Mayor Bhargava expressed gratitude towards the sports associations for their participation and highlighted that the Mayor Kesari Wrestling Competition would be organised on a large scale in February. He also mentioned plans for a future ‘Mayor Khel Kumbh’.
