The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs has issued notices to tech giant Apple over complaints of glitches after iPhone software iOS 18+ update.

“Multiple complaints related to iPhones facing technical glitches after users chose to update their device were filed on the National Consumer Helpline. After examining the grievances notices were sent to Apple seeking explanation,” said Union Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi in a statement on Thursday
Last year India had issued a warning to select Apple users, highlighting two software vulnerabilities that posed a “high risk of unauthorised access, data theft, or potential control of the affected system by hackers” and ‘multiple vulnerabilities’ in Apple’s iPhone and other devices which could lead to spoofing or leaking of private user information.
The advisory by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology warned ‘high’ severity would affect the Intel-based Mac systems including macOS, iOS, and iPadOS devices. The advisory had flagged “multiple vulnerabilities” in Apple products, including iPhones, which could lead to spoofing or leaking of sensitive information from the device.
The latest regulatory notice directed at the tech giant’s operations in India has further led to decline in sales due to underwhelming upgrades and competitors making inroads in domestic markets.
The global sales of iPhone had declined by 5% in the final quarter of 2024 and India remains a key growth market for smartphone manufacturers like Apple.
