Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): The Chambal region’s soil might now produce diamonds!
Yes, you read it right. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has identified 35 villages in Gwalior and Shivpuri districts where the soil and mountains are similar to those in Panna.
This increases the chances of finding diamonds in the district. The government is preparing to allocate a diamond block covering 421 square kilometers, named the Narwar Diamond Block. GSI has requested information about revenue, forest, and reserved forest land in the region.
After this, tenders will be issued for about 35 locations, followed by auctions.
Since Panna is part of the Vindhya Group, which is rich in diamonds, and Gwalior also falls under the same geological formation, a survey was conducted. The results indicate a strong possibility of diamonds in Gwalior and Shivpuri.
Villages Identified for Diamond Mining
In Ghatigaon Block, mining will be conducted in villages like Karai, Durgasi, Banheri, Sekra, Chuhi, Barahana, Patpari, Ummedgarh, Obra, Patai, Manpura, Kalwah, Semri, Changora, Dagor, Taghai, Badkagaon, Mohna, and others.
In Bhitarwar Block, the identified villages include Bhitari, Gadhota, Mawtha, Harsi, Khor, Musahari, Sebai, Jatarthi, Richari Khurd, Jakhwar, Belgada, Dongarpur, Mudhari, Ruar, Talpur Veeran, Bamor, Richari Kala, Hurhuri, Rithodan, Gajna, Shyaoo, Chitoli, Deori Kala, Kaithod, Dhobat, Lodhi, Karhiya, and Baina.
Villagers excited about diamond mining
Most villages in Ghatigaon will have 100% of their land allocated for mining. In Bhitarwar, only 2% of Lodhi village and 1% of Richari Kala will be allocated for mining. Local villagers are excited about the possibility of diamond mining, as it could bring job opportunities and boost income.
Other minerals found in Gwalior
Currently, Gwalior and Shivpuri have mines for white and red stone, along with iron ore. A new iron mine is being allocated near Panihar, and glass mines are already operational in Dabra. Now, with the potential for diamond mining, Gwalior could gain recognition similar to Panna and open new doors for employment.
Regarding the matter, Gwalior Collector Ruchika Singh said, “If diamond reserves are confirmed, it will significantly benefit the region’s economy and employment opportunities.”
