Himesh Reshammiya’s much-hyped action-musical Badass Ravi Kumar had a decent start at the box office, earning approximately Rs 2.75 crore in India on its opening day. According to Sacnilk, the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 17.28 per cent on Friday (February 7). With positive word-of-mouth among Himesh’s loyal fanbase, the film is expected to pick up momentum over the weekend.
Badass Ravi Kumar becomes Himesh’s highest opener
Himesh, who made his acting debut with Aap Ka Surroor in 2007, had opened with Rs 1.79 crore at the box office back then. His last big-screen outing,
Happy Hardy and Heer (2020), was a commercial failure, earning only Rs 15 lakh on its first day and closing its run at Rs 71 lakh. Compared to these, Badass Ravi Kumar marks a much stronger opening for the composer-turned-actor.
Himesh’s 2014 film The Xposé earned Rs 1.89 crore at the box office on the first day of its release, according Box Office India. With this, Badass Ravi Kumar has also become the highest-opener for Himesh.
The film faced competition from Lovepaya, starring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, which reportedly collected Rs 1.3 crore on its opening day. Despite the clash, Badass Ravi Kumar has taken the lead and is expected to dominate single-screen circuits, where Himesh enjoys a cult following.
As per a Bollywood Hungama report, Badass Ravi Kumar was made on a modest budget of Rs 21 crore. The makers have already recovered this amount through music rights and subsidies. With theatrical revenue now adding to the mix, plus upcoming earnings from satellite and digital rights, the project is already a profitable venture for Himesh.
Directed by Keith Gomes and produced under the Himesh Reshammiya Melodies banner, Badass Ravi Kumar features a power-packed ensemble cast, including Prabhu Deva, Manish Wadhwa, Kirti Kulhari, Sanjay Mishra, Sunny Leone, and Saurabh Sachdeva in key roles.
With the weekend ahead, it remains to be seen whether Badass Ravi Kumar can maintain its momentum and emerge as a hit.
