The officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) based on specific intelligence intercepted three Iranian nationals travelling from Dubai to Mumbai for allegedly smuggling gold valued at Rs 6.28 crore.
According to the DRI sources, a personal search of the passengers resulted in the recovery of seven one-kilo foreign-marked gold bars and one cut piece of a foreign-marked gold bar from the waist bags concealed underneath the clothes worn by two of the three passengers.
“During their voluntary statements, the the passengers admitted to smuggling gold at the behest of the third passenger for monetary benefits. The same was corroborated by the third passenger. The 7.143 kg of smuggled gold recovered was seized and the three passengers were arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act,” said a DRI official.
