The Dindoshi police on Friday arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly stealing his wife’s gold jewellery worth Rs17.15 lakh on January 24. The accused, Pramod Naik, married the 50-year-old woman in July 2024.
According to the FIR, the complainant resides in Malad East. Her first husband died in an accident in 2008, and she has a 28-year-old daughter. After her daughter’s marriage, her daughter created a profile for her mother on matrimonial sites, where she met Pramod Naik. He claimed to work as the finance head at an event management company and said his first wife had died of Covid. After their families agreed, they had a court marriage and started living together in Malad East. The woman usually kept her gold jewellery in a bank locker, but Pramod insisted she keep it at home and ordered a locker (tijori) on January 23.
The next day, she brought the jewellery home. On February 24, Pramod gave her a glass of soft drink, after which she fell asleep. When she woke up the next morning, she found that the jewellery bag was missing and Pramod was also gone. She tried calling him on his two phone numbers, but both were switched off. Realising she had been deceived, she informed her daughter, and they filed a case on January 24.
