Thane: Central Railway posted a banner outside Platform No. 1 at Thane station on Thursday informing commuters that construction work is underway on the route. As part of this project, micro-tunneling and pipe-pushing operations are being carried out. Due to this work, bikes, autos, and taxis will not be allowed to enter near Platform No. 1 at Thane Railway Station. However, the banner does not mention the timeline for the completion of this construction.
Platform No. 1 is particularly significant as it is the departure platform for the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) train. During peak hours, this platform sees heavy commuter traffic, and the affected lane has been quite useful for the convenience of passengers to exit the station.

“This development forms part of a broader initiative in collaboration with the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) to establish a Multi-Modal Transit Hub under the Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) in the east side,” said an official.
As per RLDA, the plan includes constructing an 11-storey commercial building (Tower-1) on a 9,000 sqm plot near platform 10A. The building will have a basement for parking and services, ground and mezzanine levels for railway-related facilities, a concourse level for bus operations, and eight upper floors dedicated to commercial purposes.
