Rajasthan Weather Turns Unseasonably Hot At 30–35°C, Raising Concerns For Rabi Crops

It’s just mid-February but weather conditions are getting hot in Rajasthan as the temperature reached 30–35 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state. This sudden increase in temperature is likely to effect the Rabi crops.

Rajasthan generally remains cold in February, but this year the hot weather conditions have started with the onset of Spring. The day and night temperatures are increasing for the last three to four days.

In many cities of West and South West Rajasthan, the maximum temperature has reached 30 to 35 degrees, while the night temperature is also between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius.

Barmer was recorded 35.6 degree Celsius on Monday while Chittorgarh 33.8, Jodhpur 33.2, Dungarpur 33 and most of the other cities were recorded the temperature between 28–31 degrees Celsius.

Although the Meteorological Department has predicted rain due to Western Disturbance in some parts of the state during the next two days, but this Western Disturbance is looking weak, so there is no possibility of significant dip in temperature in the coming days.

The sudden increase of temperature has made the farmers worried of the Rabi crops as this is not good for crops like Wheat, Mustard, and Gram crops.

As per experts, the favorable temperature for these crop is below 30 degree Celsius, but the day temperature has reached 30 to 35 degree Celsius.

Total sowing of Rabi crops in Rajasthan this year is around 1.11 crore hectares with 31 lakh hectares of Wheat and and 34.87 lakh hectares of oilseeds.

Looking at the weather conditions the Agriculture Department has issued guidelines to protect crops from possible damage. The officials said that one or two spells of moderate rain is required to maintain the right temperature for these crops or else the rise in temperature may adversely affect the quality of the crop.
