‘We Need A Template Of Crowd Management’: Anand Mahindra On New Delhi Station Station Stampede

In another tragedy connected to the Maha Kumbh 2025, a fatal stampede occurred in the capital Delhi’s New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night (February 15). As per the latest reports, the stampede has claimed the lives of as many as 18, leaving many injured.

A National Tragedy

This is another tragedy that has come to pass in the recent past, in relation to the mega festivities. Earlier, a major stampede in Prayagraj itself led to the death of many. The figures of the total number of deaths are yet to be corroborated by the UP government.

As condolences and concerns pour in, many are highlighting the need for better management of such events.

Anand Mahindra, the head of the Mahindra Group took to X to share his thoughts.

Further, Mahindra added, “As the world’s most populous nation, with one of the lowest per capita incomes, we need to make crowd control & safety an article of faith & a national mission.”

In his post, Mahindra said, “This is heartbreaking. And a national tragedy.”

India is the most populous nation in the world, with a population of over 1.4 billion people. It has a GDP per capita of under USD 2,500.

This is heartbreaking.

Mahindra Urges for Collective Action

Dissecting into the crux of the problem, Mahindra further added, “We need a template of crowd management that is a combination of Technology & Process Analysis.”

He urged for the need for collective action in the matter, as these incidents have become recurring in the recent past.

Mahindra requested the Engineering and Management schools at Mahindra University, Hyderabad, to work on the problem jointly & devise such a template.

As far the stampede is concerned, Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav has ordered a probe into the matter. Vaishnav has set up a two-member high-level committee to investigate the lapses.
