‘Nupur Sharma’s Statement Was Worse’: Ranveer Allahbadia’s Lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud Rakes UP Ex-BJP Spokesperson’s Case In SC

Abhinav Chandrachud, the son of former CJI DY Chandrachud, appeared before the Supreme Court on Tuesday for YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia while the apex court heard a plea filed by the YouTuber seeking to club FIRs and seek anticipatory bail against possible arrest by Guwahati Police.

During the hearing, Abhinav Chandrachud, who represented Allahbadia, raked up the 2022 case linked with former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma while arguing.

Abhinav submitted before the court that one of the accused was threatened with acid attacks. He then mentioned the Nupur Sharma case, saying the statement was worse in that case.

Dr Chandrachud: Ranveer Allahabadia ka zubaan kaatne wale ko milega 5 lakh

Justice Kant: so what you uttered such words for popularity and now threats are also issued for the same. There were also threats against a sitting CM and we proceed him also we knew the threat giver was…

He further claimed that a threat has been issued for cutting the tongue of Ranveer, and it has been announced that whoever does so will get Rs 5 Lakh.

After the hearing, some social media users reacted to the submissions made by Abhinav before the apex court.

An X handle named Incognito slammed Abhinav for drawing a ‘false’ equivalence to get bail for Ranveer Allahabadia and said, “While pleading for relief… Ranveer Allahbadia’s lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud dragged Nupur Sharma into this controversy out of nowhere and said her statements were far worse than Ranveer Allahbadia’s. This false equivalence to get bail for Ranveer Allahbadia is condemnable. Nupur still can’t go out without security. Ranveer will be doing his podcasts after 2-3 months.”

The Supreme Court on Tuesday came down heavily on Ranveer Allahbadia for his comments on the online show “India’s Got Latent.”

Though the Bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh granted relief to the petitioner, the court condemned his remarks stating, “There has to be a height of lack of responsibility. This kind of condemnable behavior… that somebody thinks himself that I can, because now I have become so and so popular and therefore I can speak any kind of words and that I can take the entire society for granted.”

The court also ordered no more police cases to be filed against him on the same matter. The court, however, asked him to surrender his passport to police in Maharashtra’s Thane and not to leave the country without the court’s approval. The court has also barred him from participating in any further stand-up comedy or ‘roast’ shows until further notice.
