‘Just Rename It To Western Slow Way’, Rues Irked Mumbaikar Over Traffic Jam On Western Express Highway

Mumbai: Mumbaikars are frustrated with the ongoing traffic issues on the Western Express Highway (WEH) from Jogeshwari to Santacruz. Daily jams, especially during peak hours, make travel on the road extremely difficult. One particularly irritated commuter shared their concerns on X on February 21, calling for action. He slammed Mumbai’s traffic department over the jam near Santacruz and questioned their actions on the issue.

Hello @MTPHereToHelp entire WEH from Jogeshwari to Santacruz is jammed, South Bound. This is a everyday problem at Santacruz.

What are you doing about it? pic.twitter.com/wTF1htJLC4

Mumbai Traffic Police Responds

In response, the Mumbai Traffic Police posted: “Your call has been reported to Wireless. Traffic will return to normal shortly.”

Copy paste the best you can do.

Baki Pagar to milta hi rahega, traffic jam 10km lamba kyu na ho

However, many users on X criticised the response. They pointed out that the traffic did not improve quickly, and there was zero presence of traffic police to manage the situation. One user sarcastically commented, “Copy-paste, the best you can do. Baki Pagar to milta hi rahega, traffic jam 10 km lamba kyu na ho.”

They will install more signals & breakers

Wonder why is it called western express way with so many signals ?

Just rename it to western slow way so that expectation are set accordingly

Another user added, “It never does. Same situation on weekdays for the last 20 years. They will install more signals & breakers. Wonder why it’s called Western Express Way with so many signals? Just rename it to Western Slow Way so that expectations are set accordingly.”

Others mentioned that the traffic issue is not limited to peak hours but happens all day long. Many suggested that better enforcement of lane discipline and traffic management could help resolve the situation.

This is a daily problem.. peak or off-peak. @MTPHereToHelp should really do a better job with enforcing lane discipline and managing traffic well. Sad to see an organization which was once touted to be the best is a shadow of its past. Wake up #MumbaiPolice

A few also expressed disappointment, saying ”This is a daily problem.. peak or off-peak. Mumbai Traffic Police should do a better job of enforcing lane discipline and managing traffic well. Sad to see an organization which was once touted to be the best is a shadow of its past. Wake up Mumbai Police”.

The everyday traffic congestion in Mumbai, especially on the Western Express Highway, is making commuters impatient.
