The Pune City Traffic Police have taken stern action against bullets with modified silencers, seizing 17 of them, officials said on Wednesday. The action was taken in the Bharati Vidyapeeth area, and fines totalling ₹30,000 were imposed on the vehicle owners, they added.
“Bikers replace or modify the factory-fitted exhaust systems on their motorcycles, causing the exhaust to emit noise far above the prescribed decibel limit. In most cases, bikers modify silencers to flaunt their motorcycles,” API Shilpa Lambe of Bharti Vidyapeeth Traffic Police told The Free Press Journal.

Discussing the action, she said, “A total of 17 bullets were seized, and their owners were penalised for installing modified silencers. Accordingly, fines totalling ₹30,000 have been imposed for various violations, including modified silencers, fancy number plates and other infractions.”
“The crackdown against modified silencers will continue. We direct vehicle owners to follow proper traffic rules and regulations,” she added.

Recently, the Loni Kalbhor Police also took action against motorcycles with modified silencers, seizing 22 of them.
In response to multiple complaints from residents about the deafening noise from modified bullet silencers, the Loni Kalbhor Police formed teams of four officers and 15 constables, assigning them to different areas within their jurisdiction.
As part of the crackdown, officials seized 22 motorcycles and removed the modified silencers. The vehicle owners were fined ₹25,000 each and directed to reinstall the original silencers.
