Indore On Verge Of Getting 100 More Medical Seats

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College is on the verge of final approval to offer 100 MBBS seats for the 2025-26 academic session. The college has already secured the essentiality certificate from the state government and received affiliation from Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, Jabalpur.

The only step left is the inspection by National Medical Commission (NMC), which is scheduled for April. This marks the first ESIC medical college in Madhya Pradesh, a significant step in enhancing medical education in the state.

The medical college has already made key appointments, including the dean and faculty members, and has upgraded the existing ESIC hospital to accommodate the new medical college. The upgraded hospital ensures a seamless integration of healthcare services and medical education.

The medical college will offer 100 MBBS seats, with admissions based on the NEET entrance exam, following state, national and ESIC quotas. To ensure quality clinical training, the ESIC hospital has been equipped with 420 beds.

The college will operate from a newly constructed building, which is in the final stages of preparation. This includes setting up classrooms, libraries and other academic facilities essential for a modern medical education.

In addition to the new college, the ESIC hospital located in Nandanagar has been officially renamed ‘ESIC Medical College and Hospital’ and has been upgraded with super-specialty services in cardiology, medical oncology and urology.

The hospital also offers DNB courses in medicine, surgery, anaesthesia and gynaecology, which provides further opportunities for aspiring medical professionals. This development is part of a nationwide initiative to enhance medical education and healthcare services under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

As part of the initiative, 10 new ESIC medical colleges are being established across India, adding a total of 650 MBBS seats. Cities like Delhi, Ahmedabad and Indore will each receive 100 seats, while cities such as Andheri, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Guwahati, Noida, Ranchi, and Varanasi will receive 50 seats each.

The ESIC hospital in Indore, which was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 29, already has a capacity of 300 beds, and its capacity is set to expand. The hospital’s outpatient department (OPD) currently serves around 1,500 patients daily.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Sushil Kumar Bharti said that the 420-bed hospital is fully operational, offering both specialist and super-specialty services, and is awaiting the NMC inspection.

Dean Dr. U Rajesh Sangram said that ESIC’s decision to open a medical college is a significant milestone, as the institution already has the required hospital infrastructure and space to accommodate the new batch of medical students.
