Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Forms Three-Member Committee To Probe 13-Year-Old Student’s Death At Imagica

Navi Mumbai: A tragic incident at Imagica Theme Park in Khopoli has led to the formation of an investigation committee after a 13-year-old school student lost his life due to a heart attack. In response to the incident, the municipal corporation has constituted a three-member committee to conduct a thorough probe, with a report expected within the next ten days. 

About The Committee

The committee comprises two deputy municipal commissioners and an additional municipal commissioner will look into the allegations about mismanagement and procedural lapses, said an officer from Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).

Incident Triggers Political Controversy

The unfortunate event had even triggered political controversy, with several leaders holding municipal officials accountable and demanding strict action. The incident has raised concerns about safety measures and medical preparedness at amusement parks, intensifying scrutiny on the authorities.

Given the gravity of the situation, the findings of the committee’s report are expected to play a crucial role in determining the next course of action. Authorities are closely monitoring the developments, and the outcome of the investigation could have significant implications for the park’s operations and future regulatory measures.

About The Case

The student, Ayush Dharmendra Singh, suffered a cardiac arrest while on the trip to Imagica Theme Park in Khalapur on February 25. According to NMMC, a school trip to Imagica Theme Park, Khopoli, was planned for students from classes VI to X, starting from February 17. A total of 6,666 students from 35 schools, accompanied by 557 teachers and non-teaching staff, were scheduled to travel in 236 AC buses provided by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport Undertaking from February 17 to February 25.

On the last day of the trip, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation School numbers. 76, 77, 53, and 95nhad travelled to Imagica. From School No. 76, Ghansoli, 416 students, along with 26 teachers and non-teaching staff, departed in 14 AC buses at 7.30 am.

Similarly, 406 students from School No. 77 (Yadav Nagar), 173 students from School No. 53 (Chinchpada), and 23 students from School No. 95 (Turbhe Store) participated in the trip. A total of 1,018 students, accompanied by 84 teachers and non-teaching staff, traveled in 36 buses.

At around 5 pm, teachers began gathering students for departure. During this time, Ayush Dharmendra Singh, a boy from class VIII A, was seen collapsing to the ground while sitting on the bench, a CCTV footage of which, the civic body officials and police too had a look. Immediate medical assistance was provided by the Imagica management’s doctor at the on-site medical center.

However, as the student showed no response, he was immediately transported in a cardiac ambulance, accompanied by a doctor, to the nearby Parvati Hospital, a heart specialist center. After examination, doctors declared the student as dead. Later that night, an autopsy was conducted at the Primary Health Center, Khalapur which confirmed cardio-respiratory arrest due to acute myocardial infarction (natural death) by medical officials.
