As the city gears up to celebrate Holi, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Tree Authority has urged residents to celebrate the festival in an environmentally responsible manner by preventing tree cutting and minimizing water wastage.
Holi will be celebrated on March 13.
” It is important that citizens take active participation in tree conservation as there is rampant urban development happening and construction projects impacting the city’s green cover,” said an officia.. The municipal body has warned against the indiscriminate felling of trees for Holika Dahan, the ritual bonfire that marks the festival. “Instead, citizens are encouraged to use wood waste, discarded materials, or dried branches, ensuring that no trees are harmed in the process,” said an official.
The corporation has also advised residents to be mindful while lighting Holika Dahan bonfires, ensuring that nearby trees are not damaged. “Additionally, people have been urged to avoid excessive water use in public parks and open spaces during the celebrations,” adds the official.
The NMMC Tree Authority reminded citizens that trees play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance by providing oxygen, shade, and fruits. Officials appealed to residents to act responsibly and support efforts to preserve greenery during the festivities.
The municipal corporation has called for public cooperation in safeguarding the environment, urging everyone to contribute towards making Navi Mumbai’s Holi celebrations sustainable and eco-friendly.
