Is Ghibli not generating images for you? Well, you aren’t alone. While several users are flooding the internet with Ghibli-style images, the feature is down for many others. People have taken to social media to report ChatGPT’s AI studio isn’t working for them even after numerous attempts.
Excited about the Ghibli trend, when some people uploaded their photos on ChatGPT requesting it to create an anime and dreamy version of them, they met with disappointment as the AI image generator failed to satisfy their requests.
ChatGPT users revealed they kept trying for minutes together to generate Ghibli-style images but couldn’t. The app didn’t run their requests despite them retrying with multiple prompts.
X users say “Ghibli-style image generation doesn’t work”
This ChatGPT ghibli-style image generation doesn’t work. I tried it a lot today but it couldn’t generate anything due to their content policies. pic.twitter.com/DhEUkSZCXk

No matter how many times I try to rewrite the prompts on ChatGPT to make this image into a studio ghibli style it keeps telling me it does not follow content policy. ChatGPT even suggests prompts to work around this problem and it still gets flagged. I kept at it until it… pic.twitter.com/Wu1QX49Sho

Multiple prompts fail
“Turn this image into a Studio Ghibli style”, one user entered, only to receive a “Sorry” message notifying them of a failure. “Generate the most similar image you can”, another user wrote on ChatGPT, but it still didn’t work.
“No matter how many times I try to rewrite the prompts on ChatGPT to make this image into a studio ghibli style it keeps telling me it does not follow content policy. ChatGPT even suggests prompts to work around this problem and it still gets flagged. I kept at it until it completely broke down and stopped working”, an X user posted reporting the issue on social media.
ChatGPT’s response
Netizens shared the error or failure message to users trying to generate Ghibli-style images while wanting to keep up with the trend. It read, “I wasn’t able to generate a Studio Ghibli-style version of your photo due to content policies around modifying real people’s likenesses”.
“I’m sorry, but I couldn’t generate the requested Studio Ghibli-style image based on the provided photo. This is because modifying or recreating images of people in this manner is against our content policy”, another user shared.
Taking note of several users expressing their concerns about ChatGPT’s new feature ‘Ghibli’ on social media, we gave it a try ourselves. Did it work? No. When we tried generating Ghibli and uploaded a selfie on Saturday, ChatGPT replied with a similar failure response.
Issue to be fixed soon

images in chatgpt are wayyyy more popular than we expected (and we had pretty high expectations).
rollout to our free tier is unfortunately going to be delayed for awhile.

(also, we are refusing some generations that should be allowed; we are fixing these as fast we can.)

Notably, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman acknowledged the glitch being faced by ChatGPT users and said the team is working fast to fix it.
