Mumbai Goa-Highway Murder Case: Tattoo Clue Fails To ID Suitcase Victim As Police Expand Search To Pune

Close to a month after the body of a lady was found in a suitcase on Mumbai-Goa Highway at Pen Taluka of Raigad district, the identity of the lady still remains a mystery as the police have not found any missing person’s complaint. “We have looked for missing person’s complaint in Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Thane, Thane rural and even the Konkan range that includes Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts but no where has any missing person’s complaint been registered that matches the description of the body found. Hence, we have now started investigating in Pune and are looking for the missing person’s cases registered in Pune,” police inspector Sandip Bagul from Pen police station said.

The body was found on the morning of March 10 in a suitcase abandoned off Mumbai-Goa highway close to Durshet village. “In the post mortem report, the viscera have been kept reserved for further analysis. The body was at least 10 days old and hence was highly decomposed,” the officer added.

The doctors found that the area near the neck was the first to decompose and hence it is suspected that the lady was attacked on her neck during the murder. The police suspect that she either belongs to a different district or different state and hence no missing person’s complaint is found here. Another possibility is of the only known person of the lady being the accused.

The body had a night gown on her, a bangle and a finger ring along with a tattoo of ‘A’ on her right arm. Using the photographs of these articles and the tattoo, the Pen police are trying to get the body identified to proceed further with tracing the accused who murdered the lady.
