Indian film industry is a male-dominated industry and this is not something that we are saying, but many female actresses who have worked in movies have stated this. Well, to prove it we have sequels in Bollywood where female leads were replaced, but male leads continued to be a part of the franchise.
So, today, let’s look at the list of some sequels in which makers opted to replace the female leads, but the male leads remained the same…
Raid 2
Let’s start the list with the upcoming film Raid 2. In 2018, when Raid was released, the film starred Ajay Devgn and Ileana D’Cruz in the lead roles. Ileana played Ajay’s wife in the movie. Now, in the sequel, Vaani Kapoor has replaced Ileana, and she will be seen as Amay Patnaik’s wife in Raid 2.
Singham Returns
The same thing had happened in one more film Ajay Devgn. In Singham, Kajal Aggarwal was seen as the female lead, and later when Singham Returns was made, Kareena Kapoor Khan had replaced her.
Dream Girl 2
While Ayushmann Khurrana was back as Pooja, Nushrratt Bharuccha was replaced by Ananya Panday. Nushrratt in an interview had expressed her disappointment about not being a part of the film.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
While in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, the makers decided to have a totally new star cast, in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Kiara Advani was replaced by Triptii Dimri as the female lead. But, Kartik was seen as Rooh Baba in BB3 as well.
Lage Raho Munnai Bhai
When Munna Bhai MBBS was released in 2003, they had cast Gracy Singh as the female lead. But, when in 2006, Lage Rahe Munna Bhai was made, they roped in Vidya Balan for the movie.
Golmaal Series
The first instalment of Golmaal featured Rimi Sen as the female lead. Later, in Golmaal Returns and Golmaal 3, Kareena Kapoor Khan played the female lead. And then in Golmaal Again, Parineeti Chopra and Tabu were roped in to play the female leads. So this franchise surely had multiple female leads, but the male leads were same apart from Sharman Joshi being replaced after the first part.
Housefull Franchise
Just like the Golmaal franchise, even the Housefull franchise have had many actresses because every film had a new set of actresses, but male leads like Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh have been a part of the franchise from first instalment itself.
Many more sequels are already in the making, so let’s see if the female leads will be replaced in it or the older ones will return.
